Revelation – The Overcomers

  1. Everything begins and ends with Jesus Christ

    1. Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness… (Gen 1:26)

    2. …Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last (Rev 1:17)

    3. “… I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.” (21:6)

    4. He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. (22:20)

  2. Revelation is the Revelation of Jesus Christ. The focus is the Jesus Christ, not the prophecies. The spirit of the prophecy is the testimony of Jesus.

    1. The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants, the things which must soon take place; and He sent and communicated it by His angel to His bond-servant John, (Rev 1:1)

    2. The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy (Rev 19:10)

  3. The correct attitude when we read this book: to prepare ourselves for the return of our Lord. Do you long for the return of the Lord?

    1. who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. (2 Cor 3:6)

    2. The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost. (Rev 22:17)

  4. The servants of the Lord Jesus are the recipients. Are you willing to be a servant of Jesus?

    1. The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants…(Rev 1:1)

    2. And he said to me, “These words are faithful and true”; and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent His angel to show to His bond-servants the things which must soon take place. (Rev 22:6)

  5. Written through John, who was banished by Domitian in the island of Patmos. Are you willing to endure suffering for the testimony of Jesus?

    1. Domitian (81 – 96 AD) was the emperor of Romans Empire.

    2. There were ten persecutions of Christians during Romans Empire. Nero (67 AD) started the first, and then Domitian started the second persecution

  6. Seven Lampstands

    1. The function of a lampstand is to illuminate the room. The function of the church of Jesus Christ is to illuminate the world with the testimony of Jesus Christ

  7. The seven churches

    1. These are real churches during John’s time (100 AD)

    2. These also represent the type of churches in 2000 years of church history

    3. All received rebuke from Christ, except Smyrna and Philadelphia

  8. The Overcomers

    1. The overcomers are normal Christians.

    2. Christ calls overcomers from all of the seven churches in chapter 2 and 3.

      1. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches”

      2. God is coming you to be overcomers, are your ear opened? Did you hear the calling?

    3. There are many overcomers throughout church’s history. There are overcomers from every people group in the whole earth. The multitude of people with white robes in chapter 7:9 are referring to the overcomers because white represent righteousness, and palm represents victory

    4. The child in chapter 12 represents the overcomers in the last days.

      1. “They overcame him” (12:11)

      2. The woman represents the church in the last days.

      3. The red dragon (12:3; 9) is the devil (12:9).

      4. The red dragon wants to destroy the child, it represent the devil wants to destroy overcomers

    5. The 144,000 in Chapter 14 represents the overcomers near tribulation

      1. had the name of Christ and God the father on their foreheads (14:1)

      2. The follow the Lamb wherever He goes (14:4)

      3. Why do we say it is near tribulation? Because the harvest is ripe (14:15)

      4. Firstfruits to God and the Lamb (14:4)

        1. “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Cor 15:20)

        2. “He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all He created” (James 1:18)

    6. The army of the white horse Rider in chapter 19 represents the overcomers on Christ’s return

      1. “The army of heaven were following Him, riding on white horses and ressed in fine linen, white and clean” (19:14)

      2. “Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the rider on the horse and his army” (19:19)

      3. The Rider on the white horse is obviously our Lord Jesus Christ

        1. dressed in a robe dipped in blood (19:13)

        2. His name is the Word of God (19:13)

        3. Out of His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations (19:15)

        4. King of Kings and Lord of Lords (19:16)

    7. The resurrected people in chapter 20 who will reign will Christ for one thousand years are the overcomers

      1. who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God.. They had not worshiped the beast… They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. (20:4)

      2. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. (20:5)

      3. Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will regin with Him for a thousand years. (20:6)

    8. The whole church eventually overcame (chapter 21 – 22)

      1. The overcomers are firstfruits. They overcame for the whole church.

        1. “He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son” (21:7)

      2. After the millennium, God will make everything new (21:5)

        1. “I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea” (21:1)

      3. The new Jerusalem is the bridge for the Lamb

        1. “I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband” (21:2)

      4. God eternal purpose will be accomplished. The new Jerusalem is the bride for the Lord Jesus Christ

        1. “Come, I will show you the bride the wife of the Lamb” (21:9)
